They love vineyards, wines, spirits; they are painters, sculptors, photogrphers...

Jean-Pierre Dussaillant
In 2006, the Musée des Arts du Cognac hosted an exhibition of Jean-Pierre Dussaillant artworks entitled "La vigne des Anges" (Angels'vineyard)
Jean Pierre Dussaillant is living on the Ré island. He has developped an original form of arts: the metal bas-reliefs. He works with bronze, copper or steel, associates metals with crystal , wood or plasters and his paintings as well as his sculptures, full of voluptous silhouettes, express as talent as enthusiasm.

Dussaillant is an epicurian, a "bon-vivant", a wine and cognacs lover (His private cellar shelters a collection of mythic names)
This passionf or life and good things inspires his works: his last exhibition was entitled "The Kiss", the "Vigne des Anges" series is a celebration of wine, nosing and the pleasures of tasting.
Monumental bronze noses sniffing stainglasses, gracious steel grape pickers holding copper grapes... Bright paintings, full of lights and colors , where the bottles and glasses hold you elixirs that seem the promise of unbelievable aromas.

Mrs Laurence Chesneau-Dupin, Director of the Musées de Cognac, has realized a very special catalogue for this exhibition. I am afraid it exists only in Frenc. The artworks are presented through a series of original short stories written by different wirters, all friends of JP Dussaillant.
All texts deal with wine, Cognac and love. One of the stories is really fascinating: a mysterious story of love and death, from Cognac city to Baltimore.
A museum catalogue that you can read as poetry and a detective story, it is not so usual! .
Photographs
Stéphane Charbeau
Stéphane Charbeau is a website designer (he built the architecture of this site), but also a talentuous photographer.
Most of his photographs deal with wines and cognacs, as he works as a professional photographer here.Anyhow, he has also realized beatiful shots of landscapes and monuments.
I really love one of his photographs of the quays in Cognac. When you pass there everyday, you do not feel that the place is so beautiful.
Charbeau has made a photograph of the quays, taken from the other side of the river Charente. A strange beauty emanates from the scene. The massive profile of the stone buildings, the sky full of dark-blue clouds, the blue flag of Martell floating over the city, as to remind you that here, the Cognacs rules everything.
The whole city looks like a stone ship, ready to sail away, and conquer the World.
The light itself seems unreal.
This image is as beautiful as a Turner or a Sisley : it changes your eye on the place.
Stephane Charbeau also created another website, very interesting for Cognac inhabitants: you can compare the city in 1900 and nowadays, through old postacrds and recent photographs of the same place. For each photograph, by moving yor mouse you can transform gradually the views: the top-hats vanish, horses are replaced by motorbikes, concrete appears....
